Lymphatic Drainage
When tissue retains fluid left behind from your cardiovascular system, it can cause painful swelling in your arms and legs. The fluid remaining is called lymph. Usually, your body naturally returns the lymph through the efforts of smooth muscle tissue, but there are instances when something disrupts the process of the lymphatic system, causing an accumulation of lymph in an area. Lymphedema–swelling from lymph fluid build-up–is most common in women recovering from breast cancer surgery.
One of our trained practitioners uses massage techniques to move the lymph from your tissue to the lymph nodes to remedy the accumulation. The massage is a two-step process of releasing the lymphatic fluid and then encouraging reabsorption of the fluid to your lymph nodes.
If the lymphatic massage is ineffective, our massage therapist may use a sleeve. Attached to a pneumatic pump, the sleeve pulsates, allowing your lymph to drain from your tissues. There is no downtime with lymphatic drainage, but the results are not immediate. You may require multiple appointments before you begin to see improvement.
Sleep Management
Whether short-term or chronic, insomnia causes difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, and feeling well-rested. Stress, hormonal changes, an inconsistent sleep schedule, or even late-night eating can contribute to insomnia symptoms. You may feel irritable, have trouble concentrating, have daytime drowsiness, and struggle with mental health. Whether caused by stress, hormonal changes, or other factors, sleep disorders disrupt your rest, which may compound into other problems in your life.
Sleep management treatments may include lifestyle coaching and vitamins to help correct your sleep cycle and improve your sleep quality. By boosting your body’s natural production of melatonin and other sleep-assisting hormones, insomnia can greatly improve.
