What is Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is a deep exfoliation technique using a rotating instrument to gently scrape away outer layers of skin. When your skin reaches the surface, the cells are often dead, causing a dull complexion. Microdermabrasion
removes the dead cells to reveal the healthy, living skin underneath.
Our practitioners may numb your treatment area with anesthesia for your comfort during your treatment. Microdermabrasion may take up to an hour, depending on the size of the treatment area. The best improvement is achieved through a series of treatments.
Microdermabrasion Benefits
Microdermabrasion removes your dead skin, revealing the bright, stunning skin underneath. After your recovery period, you’ll enjoy soft, smooth skin. Some of the benefits of microdermabrasion for your skin’s care include:
Treats a Variety of Skin Concerns
While at-home exfoliation may help your skin, it cannot achieve the dramatic results of microdermabrasion. Some skin concerns microdermabrasion treats include sun damage, wrinkles, age spots, acne scars, uneven skin tone, and precancerous skin lesions.
Less Risk of Discoloration
Compared to similar treatments, microdermabrasion has less of a risk for discoloration for patients of a medium skin tone. If skin discoloration is a concern, please discuss it with our experienced practitioners, who will provide their expertise on the subject.
Boosts Collagen Production
Like Rejuvenessence medspa treatments, microdermabrasion boosts collagen production, improving your skin’s overall tone and texture. Your skin may appear firmer and brighter after microdermabrasion.
What Does Microdermabrasion Feel Like?
You will be under local anesthesia and a sedative during your treatment to ensure your comfort. If you are concerned, you may discuss with our practitioners about using general anesthesia. You may feel slight sensations from the device passing over your skin but should not feel discomfort during your treatment.
If you feel any discomfort during your microdermabrasion treatment, please inform your practitioner so we may adjust your anesthesia as needed.
Microdermabrasion Results and Recovery
You will need a friend or family member to drive you home after microdermabrasion. Our practitioners provide instructions about follow-up visits and changing the dressings. You may experience skin sensitivity, mild swelling, and redness for up to two weeks. Medication can manage any discomfort, and Rejuvenessence’s prescriptions prevent infection.
While your skin should heal within two weeks, you may have a slightly pink appearance for up to three months. We recommend protecting your skin from direct sunlight with SPF 30+ and remaining in the shade for the first year. Microdermabrasion cannot prevent new sun damage reversing the results of your treatment.
Once your skin heals, you will notice smoother, more even-toned skin. You may also see diminishing scars, dark spots, lines, and wrinkles. If you continue to care for your skin, your results can be long-lasting.
Ideal Candidates for Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion is an ideal treatment for people of all ages concerned about their skin condition. Older patients may heal slower than indicated. Ideal candidates are in good overall health with realistic expectations.
If you have a medical condition such as active acne breakouts, allergic rashes, or fever blisters, you may need to wait for the effects to subside before beginning treatment.
Our practitioners are trained professionals with extensive knowledge of our treatments and their effects. If you are interested in microdermabrasion, please schedule a consultation to discuss your next steps.
